Ensuring that, as Indigenous people, our rights are respected by all outsiders, we are also sharing the struggles we face every day when outsiders do not abide by our FPIC rules. Taking with us to COP30 is a video as we plead for outsiders to respect our lands and us, Indigenous people.

Our Right. Our Voice. Our Way.

For Indigenous People, Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) is not only a principle but also a right to self-determination. It means that we decide how we should be consulted, based on our traditions, our knowledge, and our collective ways of making decisions. No government, no organization, no company can decide for us.
For the Wapichan people, FPIC protects more than our land; it safeguards our water, our food, our culture, our heritage, our language, and our traditional knowledge. It ensures that any plan or development that may impact our communities must first respect our rights, our identity, and our future.

When we speak of FPIC, we speak of dignity.

When we demand respect, we uphold our ancestors.

When we protect our rights, we secure the future for generations to come.

A reminder to our Indigenous People: FPIC is self-determination in action. It is the way we ensure that development does not erase us but instead uplifts and empowers us.
